Flowery Broken Orange Pekoe Fannings (FBOPF)

This is a grade on the tea quality scale that rates the tea leaf. This ranking is primarily used for black teas, but can also be found for red teas.

The fannings designation indicates that these are fannings.

That is, those prepared from crushed tea leaves. Meaning ones that have fallen through a fine sieve during processing. Typically, they release their flavour and aroma very quickly, making the infusion faster.

So these are the youngest and best quality parts found on the plant.

In terms of the final quality of the beverage, it is important to note that the best teas are simply not made in the form of broken teas or pulps. In the case of fannings, it may be the use of raw material left over after the production of higher quality teas.
